Begin At The End

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mikey Thackoor

My construction journey began at 15 on Trinidad’s vibrant and culturally rich island, where I worked alongside my father as an unskilled laborer. Those early days were grueling, yet they ignited a fierce determination to excel within me. Immersed in the world of seasoned experts, I mastered construction crafts through sheer hard work and a relentless pursuit of knowledge. Balancing work and studies was a formidable challenge, but it laid the unshakable foundation for my career.

In my late twenties, I ventured beyond Trinidad, spending nearly a decade working in various countries, gaining invaluable experience and honing my skills. For the past 12 years, I have returned to the Caribbean islands, bringing a wealth of knowledge and a global perspective to our local construction industry. This blend of international experience and Caribbean roots gives me a unique edge in managing projects across our beautiful islands.

Over the years, I have navigated the diverse landscape of the construction industry, working with numerous contractors and across various disciplines. This journey has given me a treasure trove of knowledge and experience far beyond my years. I am deeply grateful to the many remarkable people I have encountered along the way. My career trajectory has seen me rise from an unskilled laborer to the Head of Operations, a journey that has afforded me priceless insights and experiences.

In my career, I have honed my skills in managing complex construction projects out of necessity and passion. I consider myself a jack of all trades and a master of leadership and management. Leading numerous high-profile and challenging projects across multiple countries, I have consistently delivered success.

Throughout my career, I have developed a profound appreciation for data-driven management, blending robust data practices with a human-centered approach to decision-making. From my humble beginnings as a laborer to my current role, I developed the PACE (Plan, Action, Complete, Evaluate) methodology and the 7M Approach (Measure, Money, Method, Manpower, Machine, Materials, Mother Nature). This broad spectrum of experience has given me unique insights into the intricacies of construction project management. I also value the AIR principle (Authority, Inspiration, and Recognition) for successful project execution.

In my book, “Begin at the End,” I share the visionary methodologies and personal insights that have guided my professional journey. This book equips professionals with strategies to define success from the start, ensuring every step is purpose-driven and aligned with the final goal. It delves into innovative strategies like the PACE methodology and the 7M Approach, designed to streamline project execution and foster continuous improvement.

Mentoring the next generation of construction professionals is a passion of mine. My leadership style blends authority with support, ensuring my team members grow and excel under my guidance. Life is a project, a philosophy that drives my personal and professional life. Challenges are not obstacles but opportunities for growth and improvement. I advocate for a proactive mindset and the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid), promoting simplicity and efficiency in project management.

My work has transformed the projects I have managed and the people I have worked with. Known for my demanding yet supportive nature, I inspire my team to strive for perfection and resilience.

As I continue to lead and innovate in construction project management, I focus on delivering excellence, mentoring future leaders, and sharing my insights through writing and speaking engagements. “Begin at the End” is a testament to my expertise and dedication, offering invaluable guidance to those navigating the complexities of construction and life’s challenges.
